Sempre Livre ("always free") was a Brazilianband of pop rock formed in Rio de Janeiro, only by women. The name of the group mentioned a famous brand of a sanitary pad. In 1984, they recorded their first disk, produced by Ruban, the same of the group As Frenéticas. The greatest hit was the sog Eu sou free ("I'm free"), composed by Ruban and Patrícia Travassos. The band was over in 1986, but returned five years later with the disk Vícios da Cidade ("city vices"), but only the percussionist stayed from the original formation.
The band FLICTS from Sao Paulo, Brasil was founded by some ex-members of
AGROTÓXICO in the year 1996 and they play powerful,
antifascist Street Punk, Punk Rock. Their sound is power-driven, full of
nice melodies and with great background choirs, those who never have
heard of them, but like acts like SHAM 69 or COCKNEY REJECTS, definitely
should check that band and listen to their wonderful music.
Deo Cadaver was a Swiss EBM / industrial duo (later trio) based in Geneva, Switzerland, active between 1987 and 1994.
Starting at the
young age of 17 in the footsteps of bands like The Young Gods, Front
242, Laibach and Skinny Puppy, they gradually developed their own sound
and epic live performances, later joining other Swiss electro pioneers
to form the experimental performance collective MXP.
Band formed by Daniel, Helio Gazu, Hamilton Pernão and Beto
Podrinho in Guará one of the satellite cities of Brasilia in 1989. The
Cabeloduro was the more appropriate name to reflect its origins,
transforming influences of everyday life in a visceral and honest music.
The same year the band has made several presentations in small spaces
and bars, assuming the posture of Punk Rock.
In 1993, when Ralph comes into place Pernão of the quartet starts
playing around the Federal District and surroundings, gaining fans
through his music and urgent direct lyrics. With an intense campaign now
not only in Brasilia, the band enters studio to record their first demo
tape. With a proposed more professional, the band distributed across
the country about 2500 copies of their work to the press.
In mid-1995, The Cabeloduro launch in Portugal, The Compilations
"VOZES DA RAIVA" and "Xute na Oreia," also distributed by the rest of
Europe. An attitude that shows what he's worth playing everywhere,
spaces from modest to festivals with national impact.
In end of 1996 the first CD is ready candango group, "With all love
and affection ", through independent label RVC Music. According to
criticism, the album is one of the best of all time in punk Rock in
Brazil and is among the top ten in the nineties Brasilia.
In 1997 the band goes to São Paulo for a season concerts and CD
release on mainstream radio, MTV, magazines, and presentations at major
nightclubs in the capital and countryside.
In 1998, the band returned to Brasilia. The Cabeloduro reached released by Rio Stool "Cabeloduro No. 1," an EP with 10 music.
Before the output Podrinho, the group still does some shows in
national territory and participates in compilations such as "Cult 22"
(1998), "Basement Rock" (2000) and "Savannah Allstars" (2000) exeta
"Tribute to Garotos Podres "(2003) with Gazu vocals. Unwilling to quit,
Marcelo band invites and goes to St. Paul to record "Everything we has,
"a CD scheduled for release in July 2004. Years of road transform the
sound, causing the band to adopt a name change:Cabeloduro.
Rauppwar is a project from Brazil created by João. The genres are dark ambient,Industrial music,EBM,Noise,Harsh noise,Experimental music,Sci-Fi,Drone and etc... his influencies are horror and Sci-Fi movies, nature, animals and the humanity.
Black Colibri is another Power Electronic project created by João. This project is bizarre with a lot sarcasm and chaotic.
Sleep Chamber is an American industrial band fronted by John Zewizz. The band is known for using S&M, bondage and magic
imagery on their artwork, during their performances, and within their
lyrics. Formed in 1981 by high school friends Zewizz, Eugene
Difrancisco, and Phil Brosseau,
over the years the Sleep Chamber lineup has changed many times with
Zewizz being the sole permanent member. Previous members of Sleep
Chamber have included Thomas Thorn, Michael Moynihan, Jonathan Briley and Elaine Walker.
Since the beginning, Zewizz has stated that the constant lineup changes
are because Sleep Chamber is not a "band", but rather a "concept".
From 1982 to 1999, Sleep Chamber put out a considerable volume of
music (releasing over 70 recordings, and participating in over 35
various artists releases).
After an extended absence, Sleep Chamber returned in 2008 with a new
lineup, a slew of new releases, and a revised name, SLEEPCHAMBER.
1981–1990
Difrancisco
and Brosseau had fronted a band called The Product; Zewizz produced
their sole single. When The Product folded, Difrancisco and Brosseau
began a band called Daze of Trance. Zewizz occasionally helped out with
Daze of Trance, even playing on a cassette release as part of the band.
Sometime between 1981 and 1982, Sleep Chamber came into existence, with
Zewizz as the frontman.
Their earliest works were experimental and electronic/industrial in
nature.
Live Sleep Chamber performances were quickly labeled as
resembling a "Black Mass", with smoke (containing a special blend of
incense) billowing out of machines, and the band donning black bondage
masks while performing on stage. Their concerts scared some local club
owners, prompting them to ban Sleep Chamber from playing. Local
reviewers often accused the band of being Satanic. Zewizz, over the years, has denied this accusation.
Those early concerts featured Zewizz in different combinations with
Difrancisco, Brosseau, Thorn, Moynihan and also Malcom Smith (with whom
Zewizz collaborated in the bands Dokument and Hidious in Strength),
Darlene Victor, and Richard Gellar.
1990–2001, Sleep Chamber and The Barbichuettes
During
the 1990s, Zewizz incorporated bondage-fetish dancers called The
Barbitchuettes into Sleep Chamber's live performances. With this
addition, the band's popularity exploded.
During live shows, the Barbitchuette dancers would perform S&M acts
on the stage as well as caress and dance with other Barbitchuettes.
During the Barbitchuettes heyday with Sleep Chamber, it was not uncommon
for the band to travel with up to 11 Barbitchuette dancers.
1990's Sleep, or Forever Hold Your Piece
started off that decade as Sleep Chamber's biggest hit yet. This new
popularity also resulted in wider distribution for their music. Sleep
Chamber saw their material expand from Inner-X-Musick to overseas and domestic distribution by the Italian label Musica Maxima Magnetica, the German label FünfUndVierzig, and Cleopatra Records in Los Angeles.
Along with bigger sales came bigger opportunities. Sleep Chamber's
local gigs required ever bigger venues. The increased popularity also
allowed Sleep Chamber to do two quick tours of Texas in the late 1980s
and early 1990s. These tours featured Zewizz along with Briley, Tione,
Difrancisco, and Arthur PW. At the end of the Texas tour, Zewizz found
himself again looking for a new collaborator with the departure of
Arthur PW and Briley.
Elaine Walker entered the picture in 1991–92 to fill that void.
Walker's band DDT had frequently played with Sleep Chamber at local
venues around the Boston area. Walker was a Berklee College of Music
graduate and impressed Zewizz with her abilities. Zewizz and Walker,
together with the help of Ashley Swanson, began working on the CD Siames Succubi. Sales of this record were even better than Sleep, or Forever Hold Your Piece.
A successful tour of California resulted, featuring Zewizz, Walker,
Swanson and longtime friend and collaborator Difrancisco. Although
pleased with the lineup, Zewizz was aware that Walker's commitment was
to her other projects and that she did not plan to stay with Sleep
Chamber. Additionally, by the end of the tour, friction arose between
Zewizz and Difrancisco. Upon returning to Boston, both Walker and
Difrancisco left the band.
Zewizz then introduced another Sleep Chamber lineup, including new
drummer Jay Keegan and songwriting duo Andrew Woolf and Craig Wien, as
well as help from previous guitar sideman Swanson. This lineup was the
last recording version of Sleep Chamber, performing on several releases,
including Some Godz Die Young and Sonorous Invokations ov Brian Jones
– the latter being solely Zewizz and Woolf. However, drug addiction,
personal problems, and constant touring had ceased Zewizz's steady flow
of new music by the end of 1995.
Real problems began earlier in 1995, when Zewizz was questioned regarding the murder of Karina Holmer, a Swedish au pair
living in Boston. Holmer's body was found in a dumpster not far from
Zewizz's home. The police considered Zewizz a suspect, but no charges
were ever brought. The accusation, coupled with a growing heroin
addiction, quickly began to destroy the band and drove Zewizz away from
bandmates and friends.
Despite those problems, Sleep Chamber took on its most ambitious
project to date in 1996, a tour of Germany. Unable to get commitments
from the current lineup of Sleep Chamber, Zewizz took on two new members
(Scott Walker and Tyler Newman) for the German tour, as well as
Barbitchuette dancer "Lulu". The latter's job during the tour included
dancing during the shows as well as recruiting dancers from local strip clubs.
From the USA, Woolf organized the booking of the German tour. Many
stories exist of Zewizz's escalating drug addiction during the tour, and
although the band were deceived by the promoters, the shows were well
received and the seeds for a large European fanbase were set because of
the tour. Seeing his life beginning to spiral out of control, friends of
Zewizz tried to help him when he returned from the German tour, putting
on a benefit concert.
Despite the problems, releases continued on Musica Maxima Magnetica
and FünfUndVierzig. Between 1995 and 1997, three more Sleep Chamber
albums were released. Sopor, Sacrosanct and Sirkus
kept up the appearance of productivity without any new material being
recorded. After the German tour, Sleep Chamber only performed two more
times. The first was a 1997 benefit concert (with Zewizz, Newman, and
Walker, sans Barbitchuettes), followed by a last Sleep Chamber show on
December 31, 2000 (featuring Zewizz and new collaborator B. Avikon as
well as Barbitchuette dancer Semiramis). The final blow to Zewizz came
in 2001 when Zewizz's girlfriend and Barbitchuette dancer Laura Graff
died of an apparent drug overdose. Zewizz was questioned by police in
the suspicious death before it was ruled an accidental heroin overdose.
2001–present: SLEEPCHAMBER
Although
out of the public eye, Zewizz never stopped recording. In 2004, he was
able to overcome his heroin addiction and began remixing and recording
Sleep Chamber material with a new enthusiasm. In 2004, he released a
limited-edition CD titled Sleepsirkle. In 2007, Zewizz changed
the band name to SLEEPCHAMBER and announced a new lineup featuring
Gimmie Sparks and longtime collaborator B. Avikon, featured on the 2009
release Stolen Sleep. Since 2009, SLEEPCHAMBER has released over five CDs (on Klanggalerie, Old Europa Cafe, and Zewizz's own label Inner-X-Musick), a four-LP box set with a 7" single and booklet titled SixSixSix (on Vinyl on Demand), and participated in several compilations.
SLEEPCHAMBER performed its first live concert in nearly 10 years with
a live-on-air show on WBRS Radio One on January 1, 2010. The resulting
recording was featured on the Stratocast CD. This first live performance featured Zewizz, Avakian, and Sparks, along with percussionist Tick and backing vocalist Zora.

INTERVIEW :
Mach Fox from Zwaremachine
1) DECADENCE: So,tell me about the
U.S. EBM scene?
It's hard to speak for the whole US
scene from firsthand experience since we haven't started any touring yet. I do
see alot of bands all over the U.S. embracing the industrial and ebm
soundstyles and adding to them or paying respect and feel like there is a bit
of resurgence or maybe even first wave for some in this style of music.Right now in our hometown of Minneapolis,Mn.USA
we have alot of local and national acts doing midsize clubs and underground
venues which is very encouraging. I think there is much wider acceptance of
electronic driven musics now and there seems to be a fair amount of local
interest in industrial, ebm, harsh noise and dark electronic live acts. We also
have several DJs spinning that sound and hosting monthly events locally and all
over the U.S. with live acts and DJ sets. So I think
this time is exciting to emerge with our sound and style of live set.
2)
I would like to know more about your new album?
Our
album "Be A Light" was just released by Phage Tapes on April 11th
2018 and we started recording late 2017. The tracks that would become the album
were written and sequenced in the summer of 2017 and I formed a live band to
play monthly sets thru end of year to work out sounds and arrangements for year
end recording sessions. When we were performing these songs live in summer and
fall 2017 I added longer intros and outros to allow for more improvisation with
sounds and let the band members stray from the stiff quantized sound for a bit.
This was good for the live set but the experimental jams were cut out before we
did final tracking to give us tighter album track arrangements.During the early mixing stages I was
approaching some midwest U.S. labels with demos and getting feedback on
roughmixes from friends who were giving us kind words and encouraging the
process. The local label Phage Tapes had approached us right before we bagan
recording with a fair offer to put out the release when we were ready. Phage is
mostly known for putting out harshnoise/PE releases and wanted to release some
industrial/ebm styles too. We decided that would bet the best choice rather
than wait for a larger label to take interest and be at bottom of roster
releases. With Phage we were able to move the release out quickly and working
with them has been smooth all thru the release. It was approximately 2 months
of mixing before we had the final masters in mid feb. 2018 and the label sent
off for duplications soon after. The band Adam01(synthesizer) and Ryan
Ruckus(electronic percussion) and myself tracked live instruments and vocals
and mixed our strongest and favorite tracks first so we could get remix kits
out. All of the sounds on the record are electronic and we used rompler sounds,
modular and analog synths/samplers/fx often layering the bass 3 or 4 times. We
also stacked drum machines and used live drum triggers/samples. One of the drum
machines is an X1L3 circuit bent Roland TR505 which is the prominent kick drum
and reverb drums heard on the tracks. I tried to maintain a tight focus on the
sounds used and have driving basslines and hard quantized drum machines be the
prominent part of each track. Once the tracks were laid down there was some
editing and arrangement with most of the EQ on the tracks being done by Adam01
and then I would do some more edits and mixing and after a few passes this way
we were on final mixes.
The
artwork on this release is very special and important part of the vibe and world
we created. I even fed of it a bit for some lyrical inspirations. I had worked
with the U.K. artist Paul Gerrard on other release artworks for my solo project
and the first Zwaremachine EP and we had been online friends for many years so
I asked him to listen to some roughmixes and consider offering artwork for the
project. Soon after he sent amazing art for us and we were moving forward with
him and His brother Mark Gerrard becoming the art/layout team.
3)
Did you do some gigs? I would like to know If these or this gig(s)were just in U.S. or in another country
too?
So
far all of the Zwaremachine performances have been local venues only. Our first
EP release was 2011 on German netlabel and we were not able to tour for that
release. We have played regularly from 2012-2016 with a changing line up and
with more shows in the last year to get ready for new release. My goal for the
band is to visit other countries and tour when ready. We are working hard on
release shows and midwest U.S. dates in the summer/fall 2018 at the moment. We
also look for a label in another country to consider our release for vinyl and
help start the momentum to travel farther.
4)
Do you have contacts here in Brazil? What do you know about Brazilian EBM?
We
do have some really great support from friends in Brazil! I'm amazed how
intense and dedicated they are for EBM and our type of sounds. I listen Marcos
Garcia and join chat for his show Antena ZeroPrograma Tense and have really great times with new friends who live ebm
forever. Marcos and also Fabio Pereira with his program Electronation have been
strong early supporters spreading our music around Brazil and the world. We are
very thankful to them and have a great time being part of their programs. I
look forward to meeting more EBM fans from Brazil.
5)
What do you think about EBM scene around the world?
EBM
is a massive type of music but not so many bands doing it and not so popular so
the most explosive and exciting ones become known well and we can all relate to
those sounds together. I do feel like the whole world supports this sound and
each country has venues, promoters and DJs supporting the old and new sounds.
6)
Do you have other projects?
I
do visuals and VJ gigs as Mach Fox supporting DJs and Live acts for clubs and
venues in my hometown. I also display videoart and build installations using
video and CRT monitors. Sometimes i post my video art online.
I
also do the visuals and stage/lighting design for live Zwaremachine shows
From
approx. 2005-2012 I recorded and performed as Mach FoX. This band was synthpop
based with guitar riffs and heavy sci-fi theme. Adam01(Zwaremachine Synthesizer
player) was also a guitarist in this band.
7)
