The group was formed in 2008 by Tobias O'Kandi, a British man of Nigerian origin. The band's name is a tribute to the O Children title from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus. At first the band was called Shivers in reference to Nick Cave's first band, Boys Next Door, but they realize that another band was already called that.
For Tobias the term "O Children" is "a hyperbolised exaggeration of everyday life: things happen, not necessarily just to me.
" After being forced to change the name of their previous group, Bono Must Die , in Orphans FKABMD as a result of lawsuits by singer Bono, Tobi, Andi and the other two members dissolve the group after receiving death threats.
Tobi and Andi form with two new members, Gauthier and Harry, a new group, O. Children. In 2009, O. Children releases an album, entitled Dead, on which is the single Dead Disco Dancer and the title Dead Eye Lover. In early 2010, they released the single Ruins, followed in July by the album.
At this time, Tobi O'Kandi finds himself faced with problems of identity papers, and is threatened with expulsion to Nigeria. In March 2012, the group announces its new album, Apnea, which is more personal. It is generally well received by the specialized press.
The group no longer seems to be showing signs of activity since this year.
