Canal Terror (also Canalterror) was a German punk band from Bonn, which was founded in 1980.


In 1980, the founding members Tommy, Volker and Dominik were between 15 and 17 years old; the following year, the then 14-year-old Rainer Banse joined as a drummer.In 1981, the first demo recordings and a Super 8 film appeared, on which they introduce their later most popular song public enemy for the first time. In December, the band participates in the sampler soundtrack to doom 2 of Aggressive Rock Productions (AGR). Canal Terror also played their first concerts outside of Cologne and Bonn this year. a. with Black Flag, Minutemen, Slime, OHL. More demo tapes were released in the next two years.

In December 1982, the LP was recorded too late for AGR, appeared because of differences with label boss Karl-Ulrich Walter Bach regarding the title list but only in the spring of 1983.In 1983, Tommy left the band after internal disputes and Rainer switched to the microphone. Ex-Toxoplasma bassist Stefan joined the band as a new drummer. With Frank Glienke ("KutA") a second guitarist was brought on board for some concerts, but "KutA" left the band very soon. The group joined u. a. with raid, Inferno, Neurotic Arseholes, Boskops, the doctors and Toxoplasma on and the recordings for the sampler "Underground Hits 2" emerged. Later it came to disputes, whereupon Dominik and then Volker left the band. Canal Terror was continued until 1984 by Rainer and Stefan with other members. On the Dutch sampler Babylon remains driving, the song "Public Enemy" was released in a live version, before the band finally broke up.







In December 1991, the band gave almost a full concert in the Bonner Biscuit Hall, together with Toxoplasma, The Skeptics and the British band Urge.In 1992, the footage of the Reunionskonzertes from the previous year under the title Canal Terror - Live appeared in Bonn. The LP too late was now also reissued as CD by AGR. Also on Aggressive Rockproduktionen appeared the first part of the sampler Deutschpunk Kampflieder with three titles of Canal Terror, which were renamed and for their publication the band had given no consent. In a lawsuit against AGR, the band secured the rights to their songs. In 1997, the official re-release of the debut entitled Saufbauch from the sampler Bollocks to the Gonads - Here's the Testicles as a bonus.



Sonstiges

  • Tommy singt seit 1986 bei Molotow Soda.
  • Dominik spielte seit Canal Terror u. a. bei den Punk Bands "F.F.F.", "The Puke" und "The Gee Strings". Aktuell spielt er Bass bei Molotow Soda (seit 1998), Bass bei der Punkband "1982" (seit 1999) und Gitarre bei der Punkband "F*cking Angry"
  • KutA spielte ebenfalls von 1987 bis 1992 bei Molotow Soda und seit 1989 bei Dirty Deeds ’79.
  • Stefan spielt seit der Reunion im Jahre 2004 wieder bei Toxoplasma.
